The Art Department is situated in a fabulous suite of purposely built art studios. Being fully equipped with a Ceramics Studio for clay work, stone carving and sculpture, a Dark Room for photography and an Etching Room for Intaglio and other print making.
It boasts an extensive library of reference books including contemporary artists, sculptors and photographers.
The existing staff have been in post for a significant time which has allowed for continuity in teaching and performance. The last Ofsted report classified the department outstanding.
The previous year’s GCSE examination results were 100% A* - C. The attainment of pupils at GCSE level is significantly higher than the attainment nationally.
KS3
The KS3 course is devised of a range of projects which aim to cover a whole range of skills and techniques. Pupils explore and develop their own ideas and respond to the work of artists and cultures and evaluate their own and others’ work.
They are encouraged to work collaboratively and actively take part in peer assessment through the use of learning partners. The learning structure of KS3 prepares them well for the rigours of KS4.
KS4
A range of courses are offered at GCSE level including Fine Art, 3D Art and Art & Design. AS Level Art & Design is offered to pupils identified as Gifted and Talented.
The GCSE course builds upon the skills pupils have learnt in KS3 and provides them with opportunities to experience a wide variety of skills and techniques, ranging from drawing and painting, print making to digital photography, sculpture, clay work and even stone carving.
