A non-catchment school; all boys are welcome

history

GCSE History offers an interesting, stimulating, varied and educationally rich course. We encourage pupils to develop a wide variety of skills through the investigation of three topics; the development of Medicine through time, Germany 1919 to 1945 and a local area study of Portchester Castle.

Pupils will develop skills, such as;

  • Written and verbal communication
  • Working effectively with others
  • Problem solving
  • Organising and evaluating evidence
  • Formulating judgements and empathising with others

History is more than just developing a useful set of skills and aims to give students an understanding of the world in which they live and also helps explain why many aspects of their life are the way they are. We want pupils to look below the surface, to ask questions and to express their own opinions. Studying History will give knowledge of what humanity is capable of. We aim to show that people in the past were not just ‘good’ or ‘bad’, but to enable pupils’ to appreciate that they were motivated in complex and inconsistent ways, just like us.
