We are a department of two full time (ICT qualified) staff who are dedicated to raising the standards of ICT for our pupils. Encouraging pupils of all abilities is a priority of our department and we strive to ensure that ICT is an open subject for all, allowing pupils to develop and flourish.
ICT provide an enriched curriculum helping to develop our pupils understanding and application. A particular focus is made in Keystage 3 to allow younger pupils to develop using thematic learning where we use topics such as: pirates, endangered animals and a Portsmouth project. This allows pupils to increase interest and become engaged while developing skills naturally.
In Keystage 4 we provide the latest qualification in ‘Digital Applications’ from Edexcel. This course allows pupils to demonstrate skills acquired from earlier years and develop them to a high standard. The courses indicated below demonstrate some of the skills required by the units of work.
Unit 1 – Using ICT: spreadsheets, word processing, presentation and website design.
Unit 2 – Multimedia: sound recording, graphics creation, animation video manipulation and website design.
Unit 3 – Graphics: drafting design stages, graphical design, digitising, scanning and photo manipulation.
Unit 4 – Enterprise: pupils work in teams to tackle a business project that is designed to encompass the skills developed from the previous units of work.
All pupils are subject to a range of equipment to their disposal; this includes a powerful dual-core Pentium based computer and access to: graphics tablets, digital cameras, digital camcorders, scanners, colour printing and Chroma wall.
